Research Engagement, Attitudes and Competencies: Basis For Teachers’ Research Development Plan

Abstract – The study aimed to determine the relationship among research engagement, attitudes, and competencies of teacher-researchers in the Schools Division of Batangas City. The study employed descriptive research using the quantitative method. The subjects of the study were the 315 teacher-researchers of the said division, who were chosen through the use of convenient sampling. The data were gathered through an adopted questionnaire and was treated using percentage, frequency, ranking, weighted mean, Anova, and Pearson’s test. The findings of the study revealed that the majority of the respondents were female, 31–35 years of age, masters’ degree holders, in the service for 6–10 years, and were teachers III. The respondents were engaged physically, cognitively, and emotionally in the research. Moreover, usefulness of research to their profession was rated strongly agreeable. The respondents rated themselves as slightly less competent in understanding data and ways to systematically collect data, analyzing the meaning of the data, and drawing conclusions. Furthermore, in terms of research engagement, there was a significant difference in physical research engagement Meanwhile, there was a significant relationship between research engagement and research competencies. Moreover, there was also a significant relationship between attitude toward research and research competencies. And lastly, a teachers’ research development plan was proposed by the researcher to enhance the engagement, attitudes, and competencies of teachers in research.
