Norlyn L. Borong (EdD), Anecita V. Mondano Southern Leyte State University-Tomas...This study contained a phonological evaluation of Minamanwa in which descriptive survey method was used. The participants and source of data were from the town of St. Bernard, Southern Leyte, ages 65 and above. It was found out that Minamanwa has vowel phonemes like /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, and /u/ but it is rare to find phoneme /e/ in the initial position of a word and there’s no such phoneme /o/ in the initial but can sometimes be seen in the middle and in the final. The Mamanwa language consists of sixteen (16) consonants, the phonemes b, d, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, r, s, t, w, y, and ng. Phonemes /j/ and /r/ cannot be seen in the initial position but it has words that appear in double consonant or cluster. Its language has diphthongs of ay, aw, oy at uy and also has minimal pairs. The study of language on the tribes of the Philippines is a great contribution for a language to be known and for its unique qualities to be preserved. It was recommended to have further studies in evaluating the lexical, morphological, and phonological aspects of the language so that it can be used as a guide to the teachers of St. Bernard who are teaching the tribes of Mamanwa and also for the teachers to be able to use the words of Mamanwa as an example if the topic is about the structure of the language.
