This study aimed to determine if the performance the one hundred fifty non-Tagalog fourth year students from public, private, and state run secondary schools is influenced by their attitude towards the Filipino subject. It also ascertained if there was a relationship of the attitude and profile of ten teachers teaching Filipino to the performance of the students of the said subject. Survey questionnaires were used to get the attitude of the students. The performance of the students was correlated to their attitude towards the subject and to the teachers’ attitude towards teaching Filipino. To correlate the performance of the students and their attitude and so to the teachers’ attitude, SPSS computational software of the Pearson Moment Correlation was used. The students liked to learn Filipino more as the language used in the subject, they like to learn Filipino: it is easy to comprehend and it’s the national language. Few don’t like Filipino: hard to articulate the words and to use in conversation. The performance also of students of any attitude toward Filipino as a subject were all in advanced performance (90 up)as per description in Department of Education (DepEd) orderNo.31,s.2012 and not one failed. The relationship between attitude and the performance of students from the three types of schools is not significant. What ever attitude of the teacher teaching the Filipino subject did not influence nor affect the high performance of the students of the subject. Learning Filipino can be successfully achieved even if the teachers and students have either positive or negative attitude towards the language or the subject because learning is individual and unitary. The established theory is “Multiplicity of Factors in the Learning of Filipino”.
