Factors Affecting The Voting Behavior In Electing Barangay Officials In Tanauan City, Batangas Philippines

Abstract – This research investigates the factors influencing voting behavior in electing barangay officials in Tanauan City, Batangas, Philippines. Using a descriptive research design, the study surveyed residents from five barangays with the highest voting population, focusing on familial affiliations, leadership qualities, and economic influence. Data analysis revealed that familial affiliations, leadership aptitudes, and economic factors significantly influence voting decisions. While respondents generally agreed that familial ties play a role, they also expressed openness to candidates from outside their network. Leadership skills, past achievements, and educational background were highly valued, indicating a preference for informed decision-making. Economic factors, including candidates’ wealth and economic performance records, also influenced voting behavior. However, respondents emphasized the importance of individual qualities, skills, and traits over political connections and social status. The study highlights the complex interplay of factors influencing voting behavior at the barangay level, providing insights into the dynamics of local elections in the Philippines.
